Congratulations are in order to the wonderful Zendaya who just made Emmy history. At the 2020 Emmy Awards, the 24-year-old actress has become the youngest person in history to get an Emmy for lead drama actress.
On the night, the former Disney star, who was also Emmy nominated for the first time in her career, won the award for Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Rue in HBO’s Euphoria. This means that Zendaya won against Sandra Oh (Killing Eve), Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Olivia Coleman (The Crown), Laura Linney (Ozark) and Jennifer Anniston (The Morning Show).
Dressed in a custom Giorgio Armani polka dot moment, she accepted the award adorably, surrounded by her friends, family and manager.
“I know this feels like a really weird time to be celebrating, but I just want to say there is hope in young people out there,” she said in her acceptance speech. “I know our TV show doesn’t always feel like a great example of that but there is hope in young people.”
“And I just want to say to all my peers out there doing the work on the streets, I see you, I admire you and thank you. Thank you so, so much.”
In a video shared on her Instagram, Storm Reid, who plays Rue’s younger sister Gia in the show, literally jumped in the air at the splendid news.
“OMGGGGGGG CRYING IN THE CLUB 😭😭😭 CONGRATS @zendaya ✨💕”
“Yeeess, holy s**t,” Zendaya’s co-star Hunter Schaffer, who plays Jules on the show, said in a video reaction shared on her Instagram Story. “Oh my god, Look at her!!!”
“Zendaya, woooo,” added singer Labyrinth. “I believed you all through this show, brought me to tears in the studio with just one scene. You’re a multi talented beast! More than deserved… soo happy.”
Celebrating the news, Zendaya has now made this image below her new Instagram profile picture (and tbh, we totally would too).
Earlier this week we also saw the Creative Emmys, which celebrates the costumes, special effects and behind the scenes work of TV. Euphoria‘s makeup team Doniella Davy, Kirsten Coleman and Tara Lang walked away with the award for Outstanding Contemporary Makeup, after creating iconic glittery mesmerising looks.
