While intentional self-harm or foul play have been ruled out, three people have been charged in relation to Payne’s death with crimes of “abandonment of a person followed by death, supply and facilitation of narcotics.” According to Deadline prosecutors have claimed his friendship with an Argentinian waiter may have led to his death.
Liam Payne’s Family
Liam Payne leaves behind his son Bear Grey and his ex-wife Cheryl Tweedy (formerly Cole). Earlier this month Cheryl posted to Instagram expressing her grief and urging compassion for her son Bear and respect for Payne.
“Liam was not only a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend and a father to our 7-year-old son. A son that now has to face the reality of never seeing his father again,” she wrote. “I am begging you to consider what use some of these reports are serving, other than to cause further harm to everyone left behind picking up the pieces. Before you leave comments or make videos, ask yourself if you would like your own child or family to read them. Please give Liam the little dignity he has left in the wake of his death to rest in some peace at last.”
Payne also leaves behind his girlfriend of two years Kate Cassidy, his parents and two sisters.
Liam Payne will always be remembered as a part of music history. Payne and his former bandmates were catapulted to global fame in the 2010s after Simon Cowell brought them together on Britain’s X Factor talent show when he was just 17 years old. The group went on to become one of the best-selling boy bands of all time, selling some 70 million records.
