Troye Sivan’s concert at the Sydney Opera House was nothing short of spectacular. Performing in one of the world’s most iconic venues, the Australian pop star brought his signature blend of vulnerability, energy, and charisma to an adoring crowd. For fans, it was a homecoming celebration; for Troye Sivan, it was a show beyond his wildest dreams. It’s typical for a pop star to praise the crowd and tell them it’s their fave show, but when Troye earnestly told his adoring Sydney crowd that this was his “favourite show, maybe ever”, it felt raw and honest.

As far as venues go, the Sydney Opera House forecourt is about as iconic as it gets, the stage is set across the city skyline, with the grand architecture of the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge looming, a smattering of rain and the remnants of a 35 degree day didn’t phase the crowd who matched Troye’s ultra high energy throughout the concert. Sivan took full advantage of the venue’s acoustics and aesthetics, creating a visually stunning and sonically immersive experience. Neon lights and minimalist structures allowed the focus to remain on Sivan’s performance while accentuating the intimacy and euphoria woven into his music.

The pop star has performed across the country, fresh off his scorching hot tour with It-Girl of the music scene, Charli XCX on their Sweat tour. The pair, who are now flying solo jokingly refer to their individual tours as the ‘divorced sweat tour’ but Charli’s presence was felt when Troye performed ‘Talk talk’ and ‘1999’, while also wearing a cap featuring the Brat singer’s name.

From the moment Sivan stepped onto the stage, along with his – it has to be said – gorgeous dancers, the crowd was entranced. He opened with “Got Me Started,” the sophomore single from his album Something to Give Each Other, instantly transforming the Opera House into a pulsating dance floor. The energy was electric, with fans singing along to every word.

Sivan seamlessly transitioned between upbeat anthems like “My My My!” and the occasional ballad spanning across earlier albums including Bloom and Blue Neighbourhood.

Vocally, Sivan was in top form, effortlessly hitting high notes and infusing each song with raw emotion. His understated confidence and genuine connection with the audience made the performance feel both personal and profound. Sivan’s banter between songs added to the intimacy of the evening. He spoke about his love for Sydney, his gratitude for the fans who’ve supported him since his YouTube days, and the significance of performing at the Opera House. “This feels like a full-circle moment,” he admitted.

The concert wasn’t just about the music—it was a celebration of joy, self-expression, and community. Sivan’s latest album delves into themes of love, connection, and queer identity, and these ideas were brought to life in his performance.

Closing the night with the euphoric “Rush,” Sivan left the audience on a high note. Confetti rained down as he danced across the stage, his joy contagious. “Thank you, Sydney,” he said, waving to the crowd. “This is a night I’ll never forget.”
