Our fave little yellow sponge turns 20 this year (wow do we feel old??) and Nickelodeon has announced that they are now working on a set of Spongebob SquarePants spin-off series.
Nickelodeon’s president Brian Robbins told Variety that the spin-offs would revolve around existing characters from Bikini Bottom.
According to Robbins, this could include “an original story about SpongeBob and Patrick, or maybe tell a Sandy Cheeks stand-alone story, or can Plankton have his own?” Robbins added: “I think the fans are clamoring for it.”
Yes, indeed we are!!!
There’s no news about when these new Spongebob spin-offs could be coming to our screens but in the meantime, there will be new Spongebob content coming in July with the release of a 20th-anniversary live-action and animation special.
And while they are expanding the Bikini Bottom universe, Robbins has assured Variety that they’ll always make Spongebob SquarePants as it’s a staple.
“That’s our Marvel Universe,” he said. “You have this amazing show that’s run for almost 20 years.”
