OMG there is a freaking ‘Shrek’ reboot in the works

Oh for the love of Donkey.

It is official… Everything can be made into a reboot. There was the story of Charmed and then the hugely successful Sabrina but we’re not too sure how we feel about the news of Shrek getting the revamp treatment.

Variety reported that Shrek – which we first saw in 2001 – and Puss in Boots  are “getting rebooted” thanks to Chris Meledandri, the man who created Despicable Me.

They state that production company Universal Pictures want Meledandri to find “some fresh story lines to reintroduce the lovable ogre and the sword-wielding feline to new generations of moviegoers”.

Fans of the franchise needn’t worry about hearing new voices for our favourite characters including Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona and Puss in Boots voiced by Antonio Banderas.

Meledandri says he would like to get the band back together.

“When you look back on those vocal performances they’re awesome, and while you certainly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself responding to my own nostalgic feelings of wanting to go back to those characterizations,” Meledandri explained.

“The challenge for us has been to find something that really does feel like it’s not simply yet another film in a series of sequels.”
