On last week’s episode of Riverdale, we saw Ethel Muggs (Shannon Purser) show Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) how to play Griffins and Gargoyles.
At the end of their game, Ethel requested that Jughead kiss her – as was the rule of the game.
Being a television show, you would think fans would be able to separate the acting from IRL, but Bughead stans went OFF about the kiss, taking it out on Shannon, which is absolutely ridiculous.
As reported by Popbuzz, some fans took to Twitter to bully Shannon, which pushed her to call out the trolls in now-deleted tweets.
Shannon reportedly posted a Spongebob meme, writing, “All the stans who finally feel comfortable calling me fat/ugly now that Ethel has interfered with their ship.”
She continued, “I’m not stressed about it, trust me. I just wonder what these people will think in like 10 yrs when they remember their twitter and realize they insulted and attacked real human beings for their character on a tv show…”
Horrifying!!
Co-star and Shannon’s good friend Lili Reinhart was quick to jump to her defence too.
“Your daily reminder that bullying a cast member over a FICTIONAL ship is never ok. Please get a grip on reality.” Lili then added, “Shannon is my friend, and it is embarrassing that people felt the need to attack her personally for something that happened on a SHOW. Written by WRITERS. You are not a fan of mine if you treat my friend like this.”
