Selena Gomez just casually revealed she’s working on a new album in a virtual interview in Animal Crossing (only in 2020). Y’know, despite just gracing us with the gift that is her 2020 album Rare. And the best news? She wants to collab on a song with pal and folklore singer Taylor Swift.
Yesterday, the “We Don’t Talk Anymore” singer—dressed in a cute lilac sweater, white jeans and sneakers and wearing a bit of blush from her Rare makeup line—appeared on Animal Talking, a virtual late night talk show hosted by screenwriter Garry Whitta in Animal Crossing.
“Everyone is talking about this, all my friends are playing it,” Gomez said in the beginning of the interview about the game and talk show. “I knew this would be fun and my sister would like it.”
“I don’t usually get that dressed up unless it’s a show and all that or I feel like I need to,” Gomez added, talking about her casual outfit on the program, which was designed in-game by Whitta’s wife. “But, in reality, if I could just sing in my jeans and T-shirt for the rest of my life, I would.”
On the show, she and Trevor Daniel performed their single, “Past Life,” made a few very bad jokes and chatted to Whitta about her latest album Rare.
“How do you get a squirrel to like you? Act like a nut,” she joked. “I don’t trust stairs, they’re always up to something.”
Then, when asked about the reception to Rare, Gomez casually dropped that she hasn’t had time to think about it because she’s already working on another album—shocking host Gary as some “breaking news.” And, when asked if there’s someone she’d love to work with on the new mysterious album, Gomez said she couldn’t think of anyone better than her friend and country popstar Taylor Swift.
“I’ve always dreamt of doing a song with Taylor,” Gomez told Whitta, adding that she had known the folklore singer for 13 to 14 years. “We both wanted to do that. It just feels like we’re family… she’s been my best friend. But we’ve talked about it for sure”
No word yet on when Gomez’s new quarantine album will release, who else will feature and what the vibe will be. But, if it’s any consolation, Gomez released Rare on the 10th of January.
