A reoccurring nightmare of mine that usually has me waking up in a cold SWEAT replicates that of a Black Mirror episode: your camera roll being exposed to the world.
While that has yet to happen… to me, Samsung users have just made that nightmare into a reality.
Thanks to Reddit, Samsung users have discovered that multiple photos from their phone have been sent to RANDOM CONTACTS.
The worst part is that there is no trace on your phone to show you want the F has been sent, and to who. It just HAPPENED.
Thanks to recipients who have received the photos, people are now aware of the major f*** up.
The only cause people can think of is the recent update to Samsung’s Messaging app. The update was supposed to create a more seamless texting experience but seems to have only created this bug instead.
The most common devices that have been mentioned in the reports are the Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ and Galaxy Note 8. So… if you own one of those, we’d be doing some serious investigating RN.
Samsung is aware of the issue, and have engineers working overtime to find a solution, however, it seems like the damage has already been done.
For now, to prevent any further security breaches, you should:
- Go into your settings for the app’s permissions and deny Samsung Messages’ access to your storage
- Switch your default texting app to something else
We can expect Samsung to be slapped with some serious lawsuits thanks to this breach of privacy.
