After pushing the extent to which a book can shake our worlds with her 2018 release, Normal People, author Sally Rooney is back with Beautiful World, Where Are You after we just finished picking up our scattered hearts off the ground.

Book clubs around Australia are getting ready to pore over the words left unspoken between Sally’s lines and to compare the novel to her previous offerings.
It’s actually not long now until we get to open up its pages, and to make sure you don’t miss a single detail, here is everything we know about the highly anticipated release.
When is Beautiful World, Where Are You coming out in Australia?
Very soon… so soon that if you haven’t pre-ordered the book, you may have to worry about how you’re going to procure it.
It’s officially coming out on September 7.
What is Beautiful World, Where Are You about?
The official synopsis reads: “Alice, a novelist, meets Felix, who works in a warehouse, and asks him if he’d like to travel to Rome with her.
“In Dublin, her best friend Eileen is getting over a break-up, and slips back into flirting with Simon, a man she has known since childhood.
“Alice, Felix, Eileen and Simon are still young – but life is catching up with them. They desire each other, they delude each other, they get together, they break apart.
“They have sex, they worry about sex, they worry about their friendships and the world they live in. Are they standing in the last lighted room before the darkness, bearing witness to something? Will they find a way to believe in a beautiful world?”
It all sounds delectably messy, and although the characters are older than in Sally’s previous novels, that maturity may lead to deeper explorations of the human spirit – which is, after all, everything we want.
Does the cover of Beautiful World, Where Are You reveal anything interesting?
We have been gifted with a sweet but short excerpt from the book on the novel’s cover, and its ominous prose has us craving more.
The snippet reads: “I was sitting half-asleep in the back of the taxi, remembering strangely that wherever I go, you are with me, and so is he, and that as long as you both live, the world will be beautiful to me.”
What has Sally Rooney’s publisher let slip about the book?
The publisher at Faber for Beautiful World, Where Are you, Alex Bowler, made this revealing statement about the new release.
‘‘A book of friendship and sex, art and faith, power and love. It absorbs you once again in the inner lives of characters with brilliant minds and aching hearts, while marking the next creative leap from a singular writer.
“The book scintillates with intelligence, empathy and, yes, beauty,” Alex said, as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald.
What inspired the book’s unique title?
The title Beautiful World, Where Are You derives from a 1788 poem by Friedrich Schiller, a famous German poet.
