The fifth season of CW’s Riverdale begins after a five year time skip. Now seemingly in college or living professional “weirdo” lives, Archie (KJ Apa), Jughead (Cole Sprouse), Veronica (Camila Mendes), Betty (Lili Reinhart) and the others have moved on from Riverdale High.
Maybe Betty and Jughead have become investigative reporters at The New York Times, or Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) and Toni (Vanessa Morgan) are living a relaxing bougie life in the Hamptons. Either way, one thing is for certain: no matter what happens to them all and how old they are, Archie will always be shirtless… apparently.
As of the 14th of September, the Riverdale crew have officially begun filming season five. And, according to the show-runner and creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the first scene features a one hot dry wall, commonly known as Archie Andrews. Five years on and Archie still doesn’t know why he needs to wear a shirt is, how to wear a shirt and, potentially, doesn’t even know what a shirt is.
“Annnnnd #Riverdale is back,” he wrote in an instagram post featuring the raunchy and spicy pic. “First scene up of Season 5: Archie in a steam room. Even in a Covid world, some things never change…🔥👀🏆💋❤️”
In the pic below, Archie is seen half lit in what looks like a bathroom in a prison, ward or army base. The latter might be the case, given that fans have a theory that Archie will die in the new season—y’know after fighting a bear.
Elsewhere, the gang reunited after spending 14 days in quarantine and celebrated Lili Reinhart’s 24th birthday (happy birthday, Lili!). Lili, Camila, Cole, Madelaine and Roberto were all seen in the pic, making it the first time Lili and Cole were seen in a photo together since they broke up near the beginning of the year. In the photo, the two are separated by Madelaine in the middle but you damn well know their arms are accidentally touching 🥺.
We’ll know more about the new season of Riverdale, including if Archie will ever learn to put on a shirt, when it premieres next year.
