Lifetime is creating a three-part documentary that will explore the horrifying allegations made against R. Kelly, titled Surviving R. Kelly.
About a year ago, BuzzFeed published an exposé that detailed a sex cult R. Kelly allegedly ran, with victims’ family members and his own acquaintances talking about how he had taken over the girls’ lives.
Not long after, he was also accused of sexually assaulting a teenager. A few years before all of this, he was also in court for child pornography charges, in which he was acquitted.
In the trailer, Kelly is referred to as a “puppet master” and a “monster” by the alleged victims. “There’s a difference between R. Kelly and Robert. R. Kelly’s this fun, laughing, loving guy,” a victim claims in the trailer, adding, “But Robert… is the devil.”
The docuseries will begin to air on January 3.
