Just when we thought Outer Banks couldn’t get any more dramatic, they go ahead and give us season two, and boy what a season it was.
WATCH BELOW: First look at Outer Banks season two
Murder framing, weed-dealing paramedics, and psychotic siblings trying to kill you, to say this season was a whirlwind would be a serious understatement.
With its usual backdrop of the OBX, plus a few scenes in the Bahamas, we saw our fave Pogues, John B (played by Chase Stokes), JJ (Rudy Pankow), Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Daviss) and Sarah (Madelyn Cline), deal with the aftermath of the first season.
And with John B and Sarah on the run after the former was framed for the murder of Sherriff Peterkin, we were introduced to some new characters and storylines that had us on the edge of our seats.
But it was that final scene that had us all gasping in shock, I mean we really didn’t see it coming. So, if you’re not up to date with the season and haven’t watched the ending, then prepare for major spoilers ahead.
What happened in Outer Banks season 2?
Before we get into everything, first let’s quickly recap what went down in the season, because a lot happened.
After their near-death escape, John B and Sarah start off on the run in the Bahamas, while Kiara, Pope, and JJ deal with things back home, including trying to clear John B’s name after he was framed for murder.
Once reunited, the group uncover a new-found secret and go on a new mission, all whilst trying not to get killed, kidnapped, or sent to jail – just your usual teenage struggles.
All jokes aside, we find out that Pope has secret family ties, and they all work together to try and save his family legacy, where they have to face off against the likes of Rafe, Ward, and Limbrey.
Rafe and Ward are after the gold, and Limbrey wants what rightfully belongs to Pope, which leads to an ultimate showdown on a ship, where they have to fight to survive.
All caught up? Great, because now we can talk about that massive plot twist at the very end, and some of the other key moments of the finale.
Is John B’s dad alive?
At the end of season one we finally had the question of whether or not John B’s dad was really dead answered, to which was a solid yes.
Or at least we thought that was the case, because the very last scene of episode 10 in season two saw John B’s dad, AKA Big John, alive and working with the season’s villain Limbrey – talk about a plot twist!
I mean the woman gives us some serious bad vibes. So why is John B’s dad working with the enemy?
Well, the very last words we hear him saying to her is: “I can help you, but you have to help my son.”
Hmm, I dunno about that one Big John, she doesn’t seem very trustworthy, but we’ll just have to wait until season three to see what happens next.
What happened to John B and the Pogues?
After they managed to get away from the ship after rescuing Sarah from her dad, John B, JJ, Pope, Sarah, Kiara, and Cleo all make it safely to a deserted beach on an unknown island.
Luckily, they’re all seemingly safe and relatively unharmed – save for JJ who had a rather nasty hit to the head – and look like they’ll be recuperating on the island for a while until they figure out what’s next.
We also see them welcome Cleo into their gang, and even teach her their infamous Pogue handshake.
But, we also see that back home their parents are incredibly worried about them, with Kiara’s mum and dad posting ‘missing’ posters in an effort to find her, and Pope’s dad looking helpless with no word on his son.
Is Sarah’s dad alive?
Just like John B’s dad, Sarah’s dad Ward has a rather confusing living status. We saw him blow up his boat while he was still on it, and was declared dead by the police.
But, it turns out he had the whole thing planned, and managed to escape the boat in scuba gear and swim away.
We see him explain this to Sarah after he kidnaps her on the ship, but then he gets into a fistfight with John B, and is left badly injured.
Although, it looks like he managed to survive – yet again – because we hear the doc who treated him tell his family that he’s “stable”.
When is Outer Banks season 3 coming?
Ah yes, the one thing we all desperately want to know is, when do we get season three!
Well, judging by the cliffhanger, we can safely assume that there will be a third season, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
So keep your eyes and ears peeled to find out when and if it will be coming.
