Last weekend, the official Outer Banks Twitter shared a photo of the series’s acronym “OBX” and the number 2 overlayed over an image of an ocean, and the caption, “we’ll sea you again.”

Then, they shared a pic of the core Outer Banks crew—Chase Stokes (John B), Madelyn Cline (Sarah Cameron), Rudy Pankow (JJ), Madison Bailey (Kiara) and Jonathan Daviss (Pope)—posing with a peace sign to celebrate the new season.

And all people seem to want in season two is for Pankow’s and Daviss’s characters, JJ and Pope, to kiss.

“Make JJ and Pope date then we can talk,” wrote one fan in a reply to the announcement tweet.

“Now give us JJPope being boyfriends in s2,” added another with a complimentary fancam of the two boys.

“Ok now I demand you make JJ and Pope boyfriends.”

Rumours of a second season first emerged after Outer Banks creator and showrunner Jonas Pete told Entertainment Weekly back when the season debuted in April that Netflix greenlit them to write scripts for season two.

“Before [season 1] even came out, Netflix had greenlit us to write some [season 2] scripts, so we’ve been working on that for a few months now,” Pete told EW.

“Ever since we started, we always viewed it as something that was probably like a four-season, maybe five-season show, but definitely four seasons. We’ve sort of long-arced it out pretty far. I’m just hoping that we get a chance to actually tell those stories.”

So, while there’s been no word of a JJ x Pope romance, with three to four more seasons of the show left, we still could hypothetically see a love story between them slowly develop, or just a really great and emotionally vulnerable friendship.

In case you missed it, Outer Banks is a new drama about a group of beach-side teens called the Pogues, led by cheeky adventurer John B, as they try to uncover the mystery behind his father’s disappearance and a sunken treasure.
