If you’re a Directioner, there’s no point in us telling you to get ready. Through this whole year, the One Direction fandom has been emotionally preparing, hoping and wishing that a reunion is on the cards. After all, July 23rd of this year marks the 10 year anniversary of the juggernaut boyband. After multiple One Direction reunion rumours, there’s finally been a concrete update about what people can expect to celebrate this massive milestone.
According to EW, fans are getting a bumper pack of One Direction content. There’s going to be a new anniversary website, which will include a 10-year celebration video, playlists and “digital activations featuring Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and former bandmate Zayn Malik.”
Digital activation? What does that meaaaan? We’re hoping for some new Zoom or FaceTime content of the boys reminiscing or catching up but who knows what’s been possible achieve during the pandemic and isolation.
On the big day itself, fans can look forward to a deep dive into One Direction history. The site, ’10 Years of One Direction’ will launch and include a timeline charting the history of the group from audition to ‘hiatus.’ It’ll include a bunch of music videos, artwork, TV performances and some rare behind-the-scenes content in a new anniversary video.
Plus, the One Direction albums will be refreshed on streaming platforms with b-sides, remixes, live recordings and acoustic versions—plus the rarer and hard to find songs that people have pieced together from scraps.
These official updates sadly don’t include the One Direction Zoom call reunion proposed to Harry Styles earlier during quarantine. When chatting about whether he’d consider it, Styles sparked a lot of hope saying, “I don’t know if that is the reunion that we’ve had in mind… and not sure if that would be the way to do it, but yeah, I’ll have a quick whip-around.”
That said, we’re not ruling out the possibility just yet.
