Who remembers Fyre Festival?
Let’s be totally real: it was horrific for those involved, and for the people who were scammed into thinking they were going to one of the most elite music festivals in the world… but the satisfaction knowing all those ~influencers~ wouldn’t get their bikini shots to rub in all of our faces was WORTH IT!
Sorry, rant over.
Now, we can relish in this beautiful disaster all over again, because Netflix have teamed up with VICE Studios to create a documentary showing everyone WTF really went down.
Titled Fyre, we’ve already been blessed with a trailer!
“An exclusive behind the scenes look at the infamous unraveling of the Fyre music festival,” Netflix said of the doco, which will premiere early next year.
“Created by Billy McFarland and rapper Ja Rule, Fyre was promoted as a luxury music festival on a private island in the Bahamas featuring bikini-clad supermodels, A-List musical performances and posh amenities. Guests arrived to discover the reality was far from the promises.”
In October, Billy McFarland was sentenced to six years in prison, on charges that were related to both Fyre Festival, and other counts of fraud.
Federal prosecutors have called him “the consummate con artist.”
“The remorse I feel is crushing,” McFarland told the court. “I lived every day with the weight of knowing that I literally destroyed the lives of my friends and family.” In addition, McFarland’s legal team said that he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, meaning that he was unable to determine what was right and what was wrong.”
Two Fyre Festival goers were actually awarded $5 million in damages following their ordeal.
Nice.
