The Kissing Booth 2 star and Girlfriend fave Joey King is about to star in a new YA film, and it sounds juicy!
Per Deadline, the 21-year-old actress will lead a film adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s science fiction dystopian series, Uglies. Uglies “is set in a world in which a compulsory operation at 16 wipes out physical differences and makes everyone pretty by conforming to an ideal standard of beauty.”
Entertainment Weekly adds that Joey King will play “Tally Youngblood, a teen girl excited to undergo her operation, until she learns shocking secrets about the procedure, what the government is doing behind closed doors, and what life is really like outside her city’s limits.”
Sources reportedly add that King has been a longtime fan of the series and Scott Westerfeld’s books, and “has been aggressive in pursuing the lead role once Netflix acquired rights to the novel.”
Jamie King and Westerfield will join Joey King as exec producers. Krista Vernoff will adapt the script. John Davis and Jordan Davis will produce for Davis Entertainment Company along with Robyn Mesinger for Anonymous Content, Dan Spilo for Industry Entertainment and McG and Mary Viola for their Wonderland banner.
