J.K. Rowling is known for dropping major details from the Harry Potter universe, years on from the books’ release.

One of the biggest reveals was that Albus Dumbledore was in a gay relationship with Gellert Grindelwald, his childhood love.

As we know from Harry Potter novels and the newly released Fantastic Beasts movies, Dumbledore and Grindelwald eventually have a falling out, but Rowling would like to remind us all that they once were very intimate.

In an all-new segment featured in the film’s Blu-Ray edition of Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald, J.K. admits that their relationship is a “love relationship.”

“Their relationship was incredibly intense. It was passionate, and it was a love relationship,” she said. “But as happens in any relationship, gay or straight or whatever label we want to put on it, one never knows really what the other person is feeling. You can’t know—you can believe you know.”

This is the most detail she has ever gone into regarding any romantic relationship in the franchise, so she must really want fans to know how extreme it was.

She continued, “I’m less interested in the sexual side—though I believe there is a sexual dimension to this relationship—than I am in the sense of the emotions they felt for each other, which ultimately is the most fascinating thing about all human relationships.”

Sounds like something to be explored in Fantastic Beasts 3!
