Fred and George Weasley are the king of pranks, so it makes sense that as Oliver and James Phelps, they too would pull some pretty hilarious pranks on set of Harry Potter.
The actors recently revealed that after they were cast as the Weasley twins, they didn’t at all know which twin they would actually be playing, so Fred could have really been George, and George could have really been Fred. GAH.
In a new interview with Cosmopolitan UK, saying, “We’d just finished a read through [after landing the roles]” Oliver said. “So we had scripts, but we still didn’t know who was who. I remember sitting down at the table with Robbie Coltrane, Maggie Smith, and some of the other teachers… We were saying to each other, ‘We need to find out who’s playing who’. So we saw casting director Janet [Hirshenson] and said, ‘Quick question. Who’s Fred and who’s George?’ And she kind of laughed it off and said, ‘Oh, good one.’ And we said, ‘No really, who’s who?’”
LOL.
Later, Janet told them that James would be Fred and Oliver would be George. However, much like their Harry Potter characters, they “played a few pranks” and switched places while filming.
“We played a few pranks on set”, James said. “But we never swapped characters at work. James and I were always scared to death that if we did, we’d get caught! We hated the idea that we’d be responsible for all the cast and crew having to come in and work on a Saturday. We had a good laugh with people with other stuff, but never with that.”
Classic Fred and George Weasley.
