It’s the news everybody has been waiting for… Gossip Girl is coming back!
The late 2000’s iconic television show which shot Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick and Penn Badgley to fame has been rumoured to be getting a remake for years.
The reboot will be an updated version of the series, which was originally a book written by author Cecily von Ziegesar.
Deadline reports that the reimagined show will stream on HBO Max, which has already ordered 10 hour-long episodes!
As of right now, there are no details on the plot or air date. What we do know is that the reboot will take place eight years after Dan Humphrey shut down his controversial website and revealed himself to be Gossip Girl (still triggered).
The new series will follow a brand new Upper-East Side private school teenagers, which we can only imagine will be jam-packed full of social media.
“The prestige series will address just how much social media – and the landscape of New York itself – has changed in the intervening years,” read the press release.
The Gossip Girl reboot will be written by original show creator Joshua Safran, producer of Quantico.
Gossip Girl ran on our television screens from 2007 – 2012, and has cemented itself as one of the most iconic and memorable teen-drama series of all time.
Ever since rumours of a reboot have become public, original cast members have voiced their enthusiasm to come back.
Earlier this week, Chace Crawford who played Nate Archibald on the show expressed his ideas for the potential reboot.
The 33-year-old explained, “I don’t know what it would look like with us being in our 30s now, but I always say, because it was such a big part of my life, I’m open to anything,” Crawford told Digital Spy.
“It would have to be really right, and really specific, and with TV and the golden age of the TV streaming service, maybe an eight-episode season…”
