JOE’S CHARACTER WILL BE EVEN MORE TWISTED!

If you thought Joe Goldberg was a sick man in season one, just wait for season two!

In an interview with ET Online, Penn admits that shooting some scenes were really hard for him to do.

He admits, “It’s the ones where I’m trying to embody Joe really living in that house, really having these rare moments of coming to terms with what he’s done, and that’s far more difficult than committing a certain act in a moment, whether it’s hitting Shay Mitchell over the head with a rock or stabbing someone in the neck.

“There are some things I’ve done with prosthetic bodies in this [new] season that were kind of nauseating as I did them, I will say that.”

SEASON TWO HAS STARTED PRODUCTION

It’s happening!! We can officially confirm that the second season is underway. A Netflix Twitter account uploaded photos of Joe (Penn Badgley) and new love-interest Love (Victoria Pedretti) at their first table read together.

The second photos show the return of Ambyr Childers, who played Joe’s ex in season one. Her return promises answers of what actually happened between her and Joe before he went on to meet Gen.

NEW CAST MEMBERS!!!

As time goes on, more incredible actors join the line-up for YOU season 2. Most recently, Disney and Jane the Virgin star Jenna Ortega and Heathers star James Scully have joined on.

Jenna will play Ellie, and according to Deadline, Ellie is “a teenager who grew up fast in the big city, [who] likes to act and appear older than her years. Secretly living with minimal supervision or nurturing in her life, she must take care of herself and isn’t afraid to get into murky waters to make a little cash. This includes working cons on the adults around her, including Joe Goldberg.”

As for James, he will be playing Forty Quinn, Love’s brother. It was recently (below) reported that The Haunting of Hill House star Victoria Pedretti was cast to play Love, Joe’s new love interest. Now, we know James will play her brother.

Deadline reports that Forty is as “confident, opinionated and privileged — at his best, a charming buddy; at his worst, a razor-sharp bully. He’s said to be in the midst of completing a 12-step program for drug and alcohol abuse and relies heavily on Love’s support,” however “it never takes much of a shove for him to fall back off the wagon.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, Victoria will play Love…a girl who is the polar opposite of Beck. Here’s how she’s described:

“An aspiring chef working as a produce manager in a high-end grocery store. Love is uninterested in the world of social media, branding and self-promotion, focused instead on leading an interesting life. She is also tending to a deep grief, and when she meets Joe Goldberg, she senses a shared knowledge of profound, life-changing loss.”

Showrunner Sera Gamble says that we should expect a major shakeup in season two with this new leading gal.

“Season 1 was a particular kind of story that we could tell about the relationship between Joe and Beck and the moment that we did what we did in the finale, that’s not repeatable,” Sera says. “I will say that Love is a person he could only have met after what happened between him and Beck. And by the way, Joe is not out there looking for love. He’s truly heartbroken by what has happened, and so what Love offers is a different kind of friendship and a different kind of relationship.”

WILL SEASON TWO FOLLOW THE SECOND BOOK?

So what’s the plot line? The sequel is called Hidden Bodies, and it will pave the way for the show.

Hidden Bodies sees Joe move to Los Angeles to try run away from what he has done. Unfortunately, nobody can run forever. But for Joe, the speedbump comes in the form of a new girlfriend to obsess over.

“Joe can’t stop looking over his shoulder,” Kepnes has said of the second book.

“The problem with hidden bodies is that they don’t always stay that way. They re-emerge, like dark thoughts, multiplying and threatening to destroy what Joe wants most: true love.

“And when he finds it in a darkened room in Soho House, he’s more desperate than ever to keep his secrets buried. He doesn’t want to hurt his new girlfriend—he wants to be with her forever.”

According to Gamble, Joe also struggles with living in LA, which is basically everything he hates: the opposite of New York.

The summary of the book says: “Joe Goldberg is no stranger to hiding bodies.

“In the past ten years, this thirty-something has buried four of them, collateral damage in his quest for love. Now he’s heading west to Los Angeles, the city of second chances, determined to put his past behind him.

“In Hollywood, Joe blends in effortlessly with the other young upstarts. He eats guac, works in a bookstore, and flirts with a journalist neighbour.”

“[H]e is a die-hard New Yorker so I can’t say that he comes to LA and he instantly falls in love with the place. At least at first glance, this is not Joe’s kind of town,” Gamble told THR.

But we can’t be sure if the show will follow the same storyline. We mean, they diverted from the book’s ending in the show. At the end, Joe’s infamous ex Candace returns, after she was assumed dead. This doesn’t happen in the book.

“We started by talking about how people would presume that he has killed her and be increasingly convinced that he had done so the more that they know about Joe throughout the season,” Gamble told THR.

“So we just wanted to do something more surprising and realise that she was such a substantial and interesting character.”

WILL WE LEARN MORE ABOUT JOE’S PAST!

Series co-creator Sera Gamble has revealed the upcoming new season will shed some light on Joe’s past.

Gamble told Cosmopolitan “We’ll be going into Joe’s early life in season two, and naturally we want to know more and move around in his entire life.”

She went on to reveal: “I will say that the whole time we’re in the writers’ room talking about what that story could be, or what flashbacks or glimpses into his life we might catch, this has been a guiding principle for us; he had a pretty terrible childhood and that does contribute to who he is as an adult. But we also wanted to make it clear that a lot of us had shitty childhoods and most of us don’t do what Joe Goldberg does – we’re trying to walk that line.”

WHO WILL BE CAST IN SEASON 2?

Penn will obviously return as Joe in season two, as will Ambyr Childers, who plays Candace.

But Peach and Guinevere are dead, so we can assume they’re gone from the cast.

Gamble didn’t confirm whether John Stamos would return as Dr Nicky (the therapist), who was framed for Beck’s murder by Joe.

“Dr Nicky is in prison and he is ardently protesting his innocence,” Gamble told THR. “It’s too soon to say definitely whether John Stamos will return in season two but we have been talking a lot about the character and we’re excited to keep telling that story.”

As for Paco, Joe’s young neighbour, we’re also unsure if he will return, as he resides in New York in the show.
