Dove Cameron is currently dating Scottish actor Thomas Doherty, but while they go straight to the top of our list of ‘cutest couples’, it turns out Dove was initially hesitant at starting up a romance with her co-star.

Speaking with ENews!, Dove retold her love story – and we have to say – our hearts can’t handle this much cuteness.

“We were filming a movie, that’s how we met, and at the time I had just broken up with my fiance, for truly completely unrelated reasons,”  Dove begins.

Dove insists that although she was attracted to her now-BF, coming out of a broken engagement forced her to second guess her feelings.

“And I was like, this is not going to end well even if I am interested in this guy in any sort of real way.

“This is not the time for this and so I avoided him like the plague, I was like ‘this is a bad idea’.

“I really tried to fight it,” Dove continues.

Dove then explains that it was in a stare off competition – just two weeks after they first met – that Thomas told her ‘he was falling’ for his future girlfriend.

Usually, this would be a very bold move, but it sounds like Thomas pulled it off.

“He was like ‘ok, you and me stare off, the first person to break eye contact loses'”

When they started the ‘stare off’ Dove recalls the adorable moment Thomas said the ‘L-word’: “He was like, ‘I am falling in love with you right now'”.
