Chris Evans aka Captain America is *finally* on Instagram (just not how we expected)

Chris Evans is basically just running a fan page.

There’s a fine line between using social media to stay connected to your friends and massively oversharing and making it weird. Some celebrities go the Kristen Stewart and Adam Driver route, shunning Instagram accounts completely and leaving it up to dedicated fan accounts. And others are very late adopters, most recently the very hot Marvel actor Chris Evans.

Evans first signed up to the IG a couple of weeks ago. Like many celebrities during coronavirus, his first foray into social media was for charity. In the first official Chris Evans IG post, he explained that fans had the chance to win a hangout with him and five of his friends. Those friends? None other than Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner.

The Avengers Zoom party is one of many experiences that celebs, athletes and businesses are offering up as part of the “All In Challenge.” The platform allows people to enter draws to win things like the Avengers video call, a lunch with the Kardashians or attending the Thor: Love And Thunder premiere and meeting Chris Hemsworth aka Thor himself. 100% of the proceeds raised through the auctions and raffles will go to a number of non-profit organisations battling food insecurity during the coronavirus pandemic.

Despite his charitable debut, the real reason that Evans has finally signed up to the platform was much cuter. He just wants to share pics of his dog.

In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, the actor explained that his dog, Dodger, is the main reason his account exists. “I guess I caved,” he said. “I feel like such an old man; I feel so late to the party. You know what it is? I had too many good pictures of my dog. I was like, ‘They’re being wasted in my phone. I need to put these somewhere.”

His love is strong, but his dog hair cutting skills are not. In his second-ever Instagram post, Evans showed off the disastrous results of the home haircut he inflicted on the poor dog.

Evans gave some paltry excuses to Fallon about how the choppy cut happened: “Here’s the deal…The first time I did it it was after a walk, so he was exhausted. He was straight and flat. You gotta go with the hair, don’t go against it.” Uhh, we’re pretty sure professional groomers aren’t just sedating every dog they gotta give a haircut, but okay.

He continued, “The next time I did it it was first thing in the morning, and he had a lot of energy, and as you’re bringing the clippers down he kept twisting his body and the skin would crunch up…” This just in, Chris Evans discovers dogs enjoy wiggling and moving targets are hard to trim.

He finishes with this lil nugget of wisdom for dog owners everywhere, “He had no idea what was goin’ on. You’re trying to speak to him, and he doesn’t speak English.”

It’s true folks: most dogs do not possess the power of speech.

There’s no (dog) bones about it, this haircut was still 1000 times more successful than Armie Hammer’s aggressive mohawk situation. That said the reigning king of the quarantine haircut remains someone else from the Marvel universe: Kiwi director Taika Waititi. Between those two Instagram accounts, wholesome content for the rest of isolation is covered.
