Double standards.

The Bachelor’s Abbie Chatfield has once again reminded us of the double standards women and girls face every day.

Romance alert: Watch Abbie Chatfield and Todd King hook up at airport!

On Thursday night, the utterly adorable Ciarran Stott let down his wonderous blonde mane and posed completely naked for a ‘nude modelling’ group date on The Bachelorette

The move was widely applauded by those watching at home, who couldn’t help but like the already totally lovable Ciaran more because of his confidence.

However, rewind to just a few weeks ago when The Bachelor runner-up Abbie Chatfield wore a bikini to the beach, and it was an entirely different story.

Rewind even further still, to when it was revealed on Matty J’s season of The Bachelor that Simone Ormesher was once a topless waitress, causing mass outcry and public shaming, even though Ciarran was also a dancer at a gay nightclub.

Taking to Instagram, Abbie decided to voice the double standard (while also rightfully praising Ciarran for his bravery) and it is powerful stuff friends.

Ok I’m nervous AF about posting this due to the possible backlash, but nothing will change if we all just shut up right? Yes, sorry guys, it’s another feminist rant,” Abbie began.

“Last week on The Bachelorette, fan fav Ciarran stripped down to nothing as part of a group date. In the same week, he admitted he used to dance in bars and has had a nose job.

“This caused Australia (including me) to fall even further in love with him, admiring his confidence, sense of humour and cheeky behaviour. The fact that he was so open about usually taboo topics was AMAZING. We simply must stan.”

“However, the comment section on every social media post of Ciarran’s photo was full of 😂 and 🔥 emojis. It was an awesome and iconic moment in Australian TV,” Abbie continued.

Abbie goes on to point out the serious double standards that women face, especially those women who choose to openly express their sexuality.

“While I LOVE that the majority of the public got behind Ciarran, I couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like if the gender roles had been reversed. What if I had been on a group date, offered to strip down to nothing and posed nude on National TV? What if in the same week I had shared that I had had plastic surgery and had danced in night clubs?! I can imagine the nation would riot. I’m sure I’d be accused of being cocky, not confident, attention seeking, not funny, “slutty” (not that that means anything), not cheeky and “fake”, not just comfortable enough to admit to having surgery.”

“As we know from another one of my ranty posts, I got slut shamed HARD while on Bachie. When I wore a short skirt, I got messages saying that I was unworthy and unlovable for showing some skin. In contrast, Ciarran’s nudity made him a clear contender for Angie’s heart, his confidence being a quality that many women look for in a partner.

“I can only IMAGINE the public outcry if I had done the same as Ciarran, and had uploaded a photo of me with nothing but grapes covering me. So let’s not imagine. Here’s me doing a Ciarran. Let’s see how this goes hey!”

YES, ABBIE!

While there were many critics of her post (come on, people) there were also PLENTY who applauded her courageous message.
