Abbie Chatfield has taken to her Instagram story this morning to address not only former Bachelor Matty J discussing her rumoured relationship with Nathan Favro, but to also call out the media for continuously skewing stories to make her appear as a ‘villain’.

WATCH: Abbie Chatfield has broken down on Instagram over Matty J’s comments

The video is both raw and brave, as Abbie films herself in tears to talk about why she is still labelled as a villain despite all the incredible things she has done after the show aired – including being the body positive and feminist queen that we all need.

Before the video, Abbie takes to task some of the Matty J’s commentary surrounding her and Nathan getting their flirt on at the Bondi Boost event, saying that the pair were probably “hamming it up”.

“Maybe they weren’t flirting and they were hamming it up. It was kind of weird though,” Bachelor Matty J began.

“So there’s a girl called Tenille, she was coupled up with Nathan on the last season of Bachelor In Paradise, so she was there as well. It was a bit of melting pot of reality tv contestants.”

“But then she [Abbie] kind of said, ‘Guys should we kiss?’ Asking her followers and then they kind of were pretending to kiss so they were really hamming it up for the camera and I think they then were continuing posting on stories back at someone’s house. So they had obviously left the event together, with other people.

Matty J continued: “She’s denying it saying they’re just friends.”

Meanwhile, Nat Bass went even further and said that the whole thing was just a ‘cry for attention’: “It’s just like a cry for attention, it’s just like look at us, ‘I don’t want to be in the media but here’s all the information required to get me into the media.'”

Can we just stop here and remind everyone that demonising a woman for flirty behaviour isn’t acceptable.

Women can flirt, on and off camera, you can be into someone for just a day and that is completely ok.

What’s not ok is calling someone an attention seeker when they’re just having a good time, what’s Abbie supposed to do at a party, sit in a corner and not talk to anyone?

The thing is Abbie saw this article and was not ok with what Matty J and Nat had to say.

“I’m so sick of being spoken about like I’m a character that has nothing but evil motivations. You don’t know me, you clearly don’t even follow me on Instagram because the information here is incorrect. You’ve never experienced anything close to what I have in regard to media and public bullying. The lack of empathy and understanding is shocking.”

Abbie then recorded herself crying and explaining how hard it is to keep seeing negative things written about her in the media.

“This might seem like an overreaction, and look I am tired – I’ve had three hours of sleep – but I am so sick of people in the media literally just saying things because they think it goes along with the storyline that already exists. So that they get, or they have a one liner that then gets a whole article written about me, and then I get a Google alert on my name about things being said about me first thing in the morning.

“And also things about my ex-boyfriend and I get all this stuff. I feel like I’ve tried really hard since the show finished to show you guys who I really am and this thing just follows me around, and all I get is negative media from mainstream outlets.

“I still get called a villain, I still get called all these things and I’m f*cking over it, I get treated like a character. I’m not! Like I’m f*cking struggling so much right now, and I’m sorry this is f*cking insane to post but like please stop writing about me.”

“I go out and have a day out with my friends and I’m called attention-seeking because all anyone wants to think is that I’m an attention-seeking b*tch. I’m just f*cking done with it.

“Like if there’s an article that implies that I’m like attention-seeking or a bitch or doing something for the media I get more messages about something that I said six months ago or that happened six months ago.

“Obviously this isn’t all just Matty J or whoever this other person is [Nat], but I’m just dying that people don’t understand the snowball effect that this has for me, and this has had for the past six months. I really just want it to be over. Like it’s at a point where I can’t even create new friendships or anything like that because I’m scared people hate me.

“If you read this stuff please take it with a grain of salt, because its one person’s opinion and then it’s taken as fact because they happen to be in the cast of the same show that I was on. Like just stop.”

Firstly, thank you Abbie for being brave enough to be share and be open about your struggles, and secondly, can we need to stop demonising women in the media? Like NOW?!
