Try your best not to listen to 5 Seconds of Summer’s new album ‘Youngblood’ on repeat

Dare ya.

It’s here fam. Mark today in your calendars as the day that Michael Clifford, Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin and Calum Hood decided to ruin your lives forever, because they have just dropped their third album, Youngblood.

Yes, we have been waiting a very long time for this. Three years to be exact. But with the band comes one very important thing: millions of loyal fans.

And we weren’t giving up on the boys, even when we were nearly pulling our hair out waiting for new music. But that’s what is so rewarding about stanning a band this fantastic… when we get the music, we forget that we’ve had to wait for it.

Anything monumental that has happened in the past 3 years has officially gone out the window, because this new album is the only thing we are going to remember from here on out.

Before dropping Youngblood, we were blessed with two songs from the album, “Want You Back” and the title song, “Youngblood”. After hearing those two songs, we knew we were in for a new, older era of 5SOS, and it’s a welcome one!

The most exciting part is that they didn’t even peak with those two songs. We thought for sure they had given us their BEST after hearing “Youngblood”, but holy freaking SH*T the rest of the album is seriously up to scratch.

Our absolute favourite song: I don’t know if it’s because I listened to “WYB” and “YB” on repeat for so long, but “Valentine” has overtaken both of them and is officially my favourite 5SOS song.

Last month, we were blessed enough to see the boys perform an intimate show for us and a few lucky fans at Sydney’s Metro Theatre for Nova’s Red Room. The best part? We got to chat one-on-one with Ashton.

While his entire interview will be in the next mag issue (where we explain exactly what he smells like), we can reveal some of the tea he spilled about this new album.

How does it feel to be back here performing at the Metro?

“It’s very nostalgic because the last time we played here was two days before we moved to England to live.”

How does it feel being back home because it’s been a while…

“It’s so different this time because we’ve come back so excited with this album and I’m really glad people are loving Youngblood. It feels like our fans are really getting this new element that our band has dived into. I feel really comfortable here, I want us to come back more.”

SO PLEASE DO!!

What would you say are the main themes of the album?

“The ones that I identify with are elements of becoming, love and loss, and also an understanding of self. They’re the main themes on this record for me.”
