Riverdale star Lili Reinhart is spending Cole Sprouse’s birthday a bit differently this year. And by that we mean, not celebrating it at all… at least publicly.
As reported by ELLE, this time last year, Reinhart spent her day shutting down rumours she and ex Cole Sprouse had broken up with a sappy love poem to her co-star and boo. It read:
I tried to find a poem
that I could send to you.
Because my words were failing me.
But I searched and found nothing that did you justice.
All of these love poems can’t get it right.
No one else’s words could ever fit.
They haven’t known the fortune it is to love you.
Sappy night-time birthday poem for @colesprouse
The post, and a bunch of other birthday posts of the two stars have since been deleted from their Instagrams, after reports the pair had broken up in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
And, this year, instead of celebrating Cole and his twin brother Dylan’s bdays, the Chemical Hearts actress went off to the woods in Mount Shasta, California, for a solo trip for “some mental clarity and healing.”
“Took a solo trip to Mount Shasta for some mental clarity and healing,” she wrote in an Instagram post shared on the same day as her ex-boyfriend’s birthday. “Very grateful to have the opportunity to travel to such a sacred place and reconnect with myself and God ☀️ hope all of you are using this time to take care of yourselves and reflect—it’s vital.”
And, despite the much needed rest and rejuvenation time we all deserve in 2020, many fans quickly called out Reinhart for her absent birthday message.
“We get it u and Cole broke up but like can you stop being so petty ab it and just at least say happy birthday like this isnt right,” wrote one fan.
“Lily, did you think you forgot something?” asked another.
Meanwhile, twins Cole and Dylan Sprouse celebrated each other’s birthdays with a set of heartwarming posts.
In a tongue and cheek moment, Cole reflected on a “cursed photo” of them when they were young dressed up as baby punk rock stars and “hustling and exploiting every possible avenue of this industry since we were eight months old.” Dylan, on the other hand, shared a photo of a cake featuring him and his brother as Animal Crossing’s tanuki twins and shopkeepers, Timmy and Tommy.
“Happy birthday to the Tommy to my Timmy…or the Timmy to my Tommy,” wrote Dylan. “All that is important is we say the same thing with a slight delay and whether we short the stalk market. To almost 30 👴🏻👴🏻”
