While the year hasn’t gone according to plan for anyone, one person who is rolling with the punches admirably is Lili Reinhart.
To recap, Reinhart’s year began with the indefinite postponing of her show Riverdale‘s fifth season. Then came the ending of her infamous on-again-off-again relationship with Cole Sprouse earlier this year. During the ongoing Black Lives Matter movement, Reinhart was a vocal supporter and amplifier of Black voices, opening up her 24.5 million follower-strong Instagram platform to Black voices. When promoting an LGBTQ+ Black Lives Matter protest back in June she also came out as a “proud bisexual woman.”
“Although I’ve never announced it publicly before, I am a proud bisexual woman,” Reinhart wrote, “And I will be joining this protest today. Come join.”
Now, in a recent interview with Flaunt, Reinhart has explained that she’s actually always known she was attracted to both guys and girls. “I knew full well that I was attracted to women from a young age,” she said. “I felt that since I’ve exclusively been in heteronormative relationships, it would be too easy for any outsider, especially the media, to vilify me and accuse me of faking it to get attention. That’s not something I wanted to deal with.”
It’s an unfortunate accusation that’s often levelled at bisexual people, so we understand why Reinhart has been cautious in what she’s sharing. That said, the actress did explain that her friends and family have been aware of her preferences for a long time, saying, “But to my close friends, and those in my life, my bisexuality has been no secret.”
We’re so glad to see that Reinhart is more comfortable speaking publicly about her sexuality now. 🥰
