Seeing your ex out in the world is always awkward, but it’s even more awkward when they’re your co-worker—and on-screen love interest! That’s what actress Joey King had to live through when it came time to shoot Netflix’s rom-com sequels, The Kissing Booth 2 and The Kissing Booth 3. And, as she put it, working with her ex-boyfriend Jacob Elordi “wasn’t easy, honestly.”
We feel you, girl.
In a cover story for Cosmopolitan’s September issue, King opened up about her relationship with Elordi while on set and what it’s like working with your ex-boyfriend—all while you’re pretending you’re kinda still dating.
“No one’s thinking to themselves, ‘that was easy,’ because it wasn’t,” she told the outlet. “I’m sure people will analyse every movement and every detail. And you know what? Let them. But at the end of the day, I was just thrilled to be Elle Evans again.”
And, for King, nothing mattered more to her than diving back into The Kissing Booth series and giving her full attention, mind, body and acting spirit to Elle and her story. Even if that meant working with her ex-boyfriend.
“There’s so much I want to say,” she said, holding in a laugh, according to Cosmopolitan. “What’s the most, um, correct way to go about this? Elle Evans needs her Noah Flynn, and whatever that means for my personal life, I’ll do anything to make sure the story of my character who I care about so much is complete.”
What a professional. Earlier this month, King also clapped backed at Elordi after he claimed in an interview that he hadn’t seen The Kissing Booth 2 (and that in his eyes, maybe, no one should).
According to an InStyle essay by her, Joey King is reportedly dating The Act producer Steven Piet, referring to him as her “sweet boyfriend.” She was also heavily rumoured to be involved with The Kissing Booth co-star and onscreen love interest, Taylor Zakhar Perez. Jacob, on the other hand, was previously seeing a model and spotted kissing Euphoria co-star Zendaya earlier this year.
