Britney Spears' Dad Just Got Suspended From Her Conservatorship

Los Angeles Judge Brenda Penny has granted Britney Spears’ request to have her dad, Jamie Spears, suspended from her conservatorship, effective on Wednesday.

“The current situation is not tenable,” the judge said during the courthouse hearing, adding that the arrangement indicated a “toxic environment”.

So does this mean the conservatorship is officially over? Not quite.

A CPA (Certified Public Accountant) is to temporarily take over the Toxic singer’s estate. Britney’s attorney, Matthew Rosengart, has called for a hearing for full termination within 30 to 45 days.

After details of Britney’s conservatorship fell into the public sphere, the internet rallied behind the pop star in what became a #FreeBritney movement, as she continues to battle for her autonomy.

The singer has been trapped in a conservatorship since 2008, meaning her estate, financial assets, as well as aspects of her personal life have been under the control of her father and the Bessemer Trust.

Earlier this month, however, Britney’s father filed to end the court conservatorship in the Los Angeles Superior Court.

“As Mr Spears has said, again and again, all he wants is what’s best for his daughter,” the court document read.

“If Ms Spears wants to terminate the conservatorship and believes that she can handle her own life, Mr Spears believes that she should get that chance.”
