It seems just like yesterday Bindi Irwin was just a teen but the newlywed 22-year-old Aussie TV star turned zoo operator just announced she’s having a baby.
Earlier this morning, the Bindi the Jungle Girl star and daughter of the late Steve Irwin revealed she’s pregnant with husband Chandler Powell. As they wrote in an Instagram post announcing the news, their “baby wildlife warrior” is “due 2021.”
“Chandler and I are proud to announce that we’re expecting,” Irwin wrote in a post featuring a photo of her and Chandler in their classic khaki short-sleeve and shorts wildlife gear, holding a baby-sized zoo keeper uniform. “It’s an honour to share this special moment in our lives with you.”
“Though I’m still in my first trimester, we really want you to be part of our journey from the beginning of this new life chapter. We couldn’t wait to share the news as this beautiful little being has become the most important part of our lives.”
“Your support means the world to us. Please let me know your best advice and send good vibes & prayers to our little sweetheart. Love & light. ❤️”
Bindi’s mum Terri Irwin was “over the moon” at the announcement, calling it “the best day ever!”
“This is the best day ever,” she tweeted. “I am over the moon to announce that Bindi and Chandler are going to have a baby.”
“Words cannot express the love that is filling my heart. While I wish that Steve [Irwin] was here to share this beautiful moment, I know that he would be so proud.”
According to USA Today, the couple first met in 2013 when Powell, a Florida native, came down to Australia for a wakeboarding competition, and had been dating since 2015. According to New Idea, Powell proposed to Irwin on the 24th of July 2019. Then, fittingly, the pair got married at the Australian Zoo on the 25th of March this year, in a small social distanced event with just Bindi’s family.
