There’s some pretty good 13 Reasons Why fans theories doing the rounds rn but this one about Tony has left us SHOOK.
Many who have binge-watched all 13 episodes have speculated that the vintage car-loving teen with the most perfectly coiffed hair we’ve ever seen could be a ghost. It sounds a little crazy but he’s always just conveniently there for Clay and doesn’t really have much going on in his own life.
But then Tony’s boyfriend came along and he started interacting more with other characters which totally debunked that theory—we all know the biggest ghost giveaway is when they only interact with ONE character.
However, as E! Online points out, what if Tony is not a ghost but a guardian angel?!
Just think about it. He knows ~everything~ about Hannah and is apparently her most trusted friend but we barely saw them together.
What about how damn wise Tony is for teenager? He never runs out of beyond-his-years wisdom for Clay, who he guides through his weird tape experience. And let’s not forget that time he made Clay climb a mountain in Converse to get over his fear of death or something!
Then there’s the obvious fact that he’s the keeper of the tapes and he distributes them after Hannah’s death, helping her speak from beyond the grave. Sounds like he’s helping her “move on” by fulfilling her final wish—something a guardian angel would totally do.
Finally, remember how the show ends with Tony and his boyfriend Brad, Clay and Skye driving off into the sunset? Tony is driving the car and if we stick with the guardian angel theory, it seems like they might all be dead. But we know they’re not. Or is that the next big plot twist?!
