SPOILER ALERT
As we know, the mysterious gunshot victim seen as the finale started turned out to be Alex, who apparently suffered a self-inflicted bullet to the head. And even though the reveal shocked the life out of us, Miles told The Hollywood Reporter all the clues were there.
“It was interesting to see similarities between Alex and Hannah because there are a lot of warning signs throughout the season,” he said, explaining that he learnt the fate of his character pretty early on. “I was able to talk to the writers and clock when he was crying out for help or showing that he’s on the same path as Hannah.”
Miles went on to actually point out the warning signs. Remember that scene where Alex deliberately falls into Bryce’s pool? “There’s a scene where I’m walking and I fall into a pool, and at that point I knew what that meant,” he spilled. “And there’s a scene with my fake dad and he comes in and he’s talking about me not doing a deposition and I knew what that was foreshadowing.”

Ok now we literally have to go back and watch the whole show again!
Miles was also asked about the critics slamming the show for “glorifying suicide”—and not offering an alternative—and he’s not here for it.
“That’s a really strange position to take on the show,” he said. “It definitely offers an alternative to suicide. The whole point is showing that Hannah felt like she didn’t have anyone where in fact she did and everybody does… same with Alex.”
He added that the message of the show more about trying to pick up on those warning sings in others, “trying to help as opposed to leaving them alone and making them think that there’s no alternative, when there are so many alternatives out there.”
