Last season of Riverdale left viewers with the cliffhanger that Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) was D-E-A-D.
While we don’t want to believe such thing to be true, the new trailer released by The CW for season four pretty much confirms the terrifying news… and that the others are covering up a murder…
Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), and Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) were seen burning their bloodied clothes in a fire at the end of season three, but Jughead wasn’t anywhere to be seen, although, his beanie was.
Betty instructs her friends that they need to burn everything and disappear, for good.
WATCH: Riverdale clip not only suggests that Jughead is dead, but that Betty, Veronica, and Archie were part of a murder…
“Archie… Archie… ARCHIE,” Betty yells. “Are you listening to me?
“We have to burn all of our clothes, including Jughead’s beanie,” she demands.
“We’ll wash off the blood in the swimming hole,” Betty continues, while they stand there, naked and bloodstained.
“After tonight, we never speak of this. Ever. Not to each other. Not to our parents. No one.
“We finish our senior year, we graduate, and we’ll go our separate ways. That is the only way that we won’t get caught.”
This is when Betty forces Archie to throw Jughead’s beanie into the fire.
So, is Jughead actually dead? It’s unlikely. Let’s be real here, Riverdale wouldn’t kill off one of their main characters, especially not a core member like Jughead. Cole Sprouse’s fanbase just wouldn’t handle it.
However, there are theories.
JUGHEAD HAS FAKED HIS OWN DEATH
Betty, Veronica, and Archie have clearly gotten themselves into some sh*t. That’s obvious. It seems that they have either murdered somebody or been involved in some kind of way.
This theory suggests that maybe they are covering for Jughead – who actually committed the murder. Getting rid of his hat is getting rid of evidence that may tie him into any suspicion.
Who got killed then? The fans’ top pick is Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos).
BETTY, VERONICA, AND ARCHIE ARE PERFORMING A SPELL
…to bring Jughead BACK TO LIFE. This is a fun one, but maybe not so realistic. There is a large fanbase that is gunning for a Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina crossover, which has been somewhat promised by producers in the past.
Some fans think that Jughead died, and that the trio are trying to reverse his death with a spell, but it would suggest that there is magic in Riverdale, something that showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has insisted won’t happen. He once said that he wants to “make sure that Riverdale doesn’t turn into a place where magic exists.”
Hmmm…
IT’S ALL AN ILLUSION
The show is known for tricking us many, many times. While it’s being set up for the highest account of DRAMA right now, the solution may be very simple. Jughead may be alive and well.
Maybe, Jughead is off getting rid of other evidence linking the core four to whatever the hell they’ve done. Maybe he’s eating a cheeseburger.
We’ll never know.
Roberto has promised that viewers will know what happened to Jughead by the midseason break.
