The trailer for ‘The Hate U Give’ is FINALLY here and we’re shook

HELLO KJ Apa!

If there’s one movie we’re completely hanging out for, it’s The Hate U Give.

The film, which is an adaptation of Angie Thomas’ novel, released its first trailer last night and OMG GET THE TISSUES OUT.

The Hate U Give follows Starr Carter (played by Amandla Stenberg), who is “a prep school student who witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend at the hands of a police officer. Facing pressure from all sides of the community, she must find her voice and decide to stand up for what’s right.”

K.J. Apa was recently cast in the movie, replacing Kian Lawley as Starr’s boyfriend, Chris. Other stars include Sabrina Carpenter, Regina Hall and Issa Rae.

Clevver.com got to be on set of the film last year, and Amandla opened up to them about the tragic and emotional scenes we’ve had a glimpse of in the trailer.

“The most challenging scenes were shooting Khalil’s death, the shooting by the cop and the interrogation scene directly after,” she said. “Those were the most challenging. And also just having to cover up the grief. That’s what is kind of challenging, is immediately after Starr goes through this event she has to then cover up that feeling while being in a space she doesn’t really feel like she belongs in and I think that’s really hard.”

The Hate U Give is coming to cinemas on October 19, 2018.
