However definitely not as Meghan Markle in The Crown.
The Netflix drama has just debuted its second season, and actors Matt Smith and Claire Foy sat down with Andy Cohen to answer a few fan questions.
When Matt was asked who he would like to see play Meghan, he answered with, “Who’s that singer? Who’s the singer who goes out with Justin Bieber?” He then realised who it was, answering, “Selena Gomez”.
He and Claire joked around for a little before deciding that Selena wouldn’t be a good Meghan, however Twitter fans saw a much larger problem with this. Meghan is half-black and Selena is Latinx.
While Matt probably didn’t mean to offend anybody with his comments, it is important for people – especially actors – to acknowledge that race is important, and race representation in Hollywood is something that needs to be worked on.
