It’s no secret that appearing on reality TV is no walk in the park.
You only have to look at the IG accounts of the contestants from last season’s The Bachelor to see how much criticism you can cop from the public.
But what’s even scarier is putting your talent on the line for the public to judge and vote on!
It’s something Aussie performer Samantha Jade has experienced first-hand.
She shared her experience of appearing on The X-Factor with hosts Jacqui and Alana on Girlfriend’s Beauty Boss podcast.
“X-Factor was tough. It was really, really tough cause you’re putting yourself out there and you’re kind of like, hey, go judge me,” she said.
“Like, you’re giving people permission to do that.”
She revealed that despite already having a significant showbiz career before she appeared on the talent show at age 25, she still wasn’t prepared for it.
“You have to be ready for what comes with it, which is something you never ready for actually,” she said.
“But it was a great experience and I learned a lot cause it’s very fast-moving. You got your song choice I think on the Saturday or Sunday and you’re performing it by the Tuesday. So you gotta learn the lyrics, learn the choreography and perfect it all in that time, which is not a lot of time when you think about it!”
Of course, it was all worth it for Sammy, who was named the Aussie show’s first ever female winner!
“When they said ‘you’re the first female to win’ it was even more empowering,” she said.
“Especially after the journey I’d had in the industry, I felt like that’s such a great thing and I love that I can put that as part of my little resume now, too.”
