It’s 2019 and as much as we’d like to believe that outdated gender norms are fading — the fact is, kids can be mean AF.
It’s a challenge actress Megan Fox has faced with recently with her son, Noah.
While appearing on the US talk show The Talk, she mentioned that the six-year-old is “super into fashion” and loves wearing dresses to school.
The mum-of-three revealed that despite going to a ‘hippy, liberal school’ in California, his classmates still give him a hard time about his style choices.
During the interview, Megan recalled a situation where Noah came home from school and she asked how his day was.
“He was like, ‘Well, all the boys laughed when I came in, but I don’t care, I love dresses too much,” she said — and OMG stop, our hearts can’t take it.
The New Girl star added that the boys would make comments like “boys don’t wear pink” or “boys don’t wear dresses” — highlighting that we still have a long way to go when it comes to challenging archaic gender stereotypes.
Thankfully, supermum Megan has her son’s back, adding that she was “trying to teach him to be confident no matter what anyone else says.”
It’s a view shared by her husband and Noah’s dad Brian Austin Green, who two years ago said in an interview that he couldn’t care less whether Noah wears dresses.
“He’s not harming anyone wearing a dress. So if he wants to wear a dress, good on him,” he said at the time.
Um, can you say, parenting done right!? We love that they’re letting their kids be who they want to be.
Megan also added that Noah is a budding fashion designer and he loves doing things like drawing and designing outfits.
“But he’s still six, so when I do fittings, like, I did one recently and I had this really beautiful yellow dress on, and he kept draping it in a way where he’s like, ‘If we do it like this, it looks like a diaper!'” she laughed.
Who knows, maybe one day we’ll all be wearing Noah’s dresses!
