Imagine this: Someone asks you and your bestie how you met. You respond “Oh, we met touring with One Direction, no biggie.”
It would be crazytown, right!? But for BFFs Lottie Tomlinson and Lou Teasdale, it’s a reality.
Lou was the main hair and makeup stylist for the band, while Lottie, of course, is Louis Tomlinsons’ little sis.
In the latest episode of GF’s Beauty Boss podcast, the dynamic duo revealed that the experience was *really* like.
For Lou, who was initially a stylist on X-Factor, she decided to continue on with 1D for their tour, thinking it would a relaxing change from her usual job.
Oh, how wrong she was!
“It was crazy!” she laughs. “I had actually arranged to go away for a five week tour, but we didn’t come home for four years.”
She explains that 1D just kept blowing up and adding more and more shows.
“It just kept getting bigger and bigger and then everyone was just in it together,” Lou says.
Lottie, who was a shy 15-year old at the time, explains that having a brother in One Direction is “all she’s ever known.”
She came along on tour to not only support her brother, but also do work experience with Lou.
But as a beauty fanatic with an encyclopaedic knowledge of every MAC colour, Lottie ended up teaching Lou just as much.
“Because of everything that was going with social media and YouTubers and makeup at the time…she would show me thinks and I would be like ‘that’s cool, show me more of that, we should be doing that,” says Lou. “We ended up learning from each other.”
The pair have pretty much been inseparable ever since — but these days, Lou is working for Lottie!
Last year, Lottie founded Tanologist, a game-changing range of vegan and cruelty-free self-tanners that go on completely clear. Lou acts as creative director for the range.
Lou and Lottie reveal that the biggest thing they’ve learned from touring with One Direction is not to take anything for granted — and they’re applying that to what they’re doing now.
“Back then, we would just like moan and be tired from traveling and jet lagged and be like ‘we want to go home, we miss our boyfriends'” Lou recalls. “But now we’re like, ‘oh it was so good, how happy were we!?”
“Now, we realise we’ll probably look back on it in a few years and think these were the best years, just like we did with the tour,” Lottie adds. “So, it just makes us appreciate what we do now more.”
