Lena Dunham has finally opened up about her friendship with New Zealand singer Lorde in a new interview.
Things between Lena and Lorde (real name Ella Yelich-O’Connor) became strained after the Girls actress split from her boyfriend of five years, Jack Antonoff in January this year.
Just weeks after Lena and Jack called it quits, rumours swirled that Jack had already moved on with Lorde. Some people even accused Jack of cheating on Lena with the singer.
The 32-year-old told The Cut that the whole situation was “so embarrassing”.
“It was awful,” she said. “I don’t think anything happened between them. I can never know someone else’s life. I have never spoken to Ella [Lorde] about it. We haven’t talked since Jack and I broke up. It was awful, and I couldn’t do anything about it except trust that what he was saying to me was true.”
Jack even took to Twitter at the time to dispel any dating rumours.
“Normally I would never address rumours but I resent having the most important friendships and working relationships in my life reduced to dumb hetero normative gossip. Those relationships are deeply important and sacred. With that said, I’m not seeing anyone. Lol,” he wrote.
Despite the rumours, Lena still remains super close with Jack to this day.
So we’re guessing that Lena won’t be having a combined hang with Lorde and mutual BFF Taylor Swift anytime soon!
