‘Harry Potter and The Cursed Child’ Is Officially Coming To Australia

Accio theater nerds!

In what must be the most magical news of the week, the team behind Harry Potter and The Cursed Child have announced the award-winning musical will be making it’s way down under in 2019. Cue the celebratory pumpkin juice!

Director John Tiffany, author JK Rowling, and playwright Jack Thorne shared the news with fans in a video this morning, revealing the musical would be coming exclusively to the Princess Theatre in Melbourne in 2019. Unfortunately the show won’t be making it’s way around Australia’s other major cities, though we’re sure fans are stoked it’s finally showing in a more local setting. We all love our Harry Potter, but not everyone can just hop on a broomstick to London to catch the show.

“When we embarked on this journey, it was an objective to ensure we could get the production to Australia as soon as logistically possible,” producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender said in a statement.

“You can’t ever assume a new play is going to have a further life, but we knew that if Harry Potter and the Cursed Child did have a life beyond London and Broadway, that the next stop would be here.”

For those who don’t know, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child takes place nineteen years after the seventh book’s ending.

“It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children,” the show’s description reads. “While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.”

Thankyou to the wonderful production team who’ve treated us Aussies to this glorious news! We. Can’t. WAIT.
