If you’ve been on Netflix recently, you’ve probably noticed everyone’s new TV obsession: Everything Sucks!
The show has already been praised for its diversity and representation of sexuality in high school… until now.
One main plot line follows Kate Messner, and her journey to discovering her sexuality. She dates her fellow male student Luke for a while before figuring out that it’s females she is attracted to. Emaline, in particular. Emaline is the older drama club queen, who happens to be just as into her.
The finale episode shows the two kissing.
As much as this is a ‘YAS!’ moment, people have started freaking out after finding out the ages of the actresses.
Kate plays a 15 year old on the show, but is actually 14 year old Peyton Kennedy. Emaline is played by 20 year old Sydney Sweeney.
Of course it’s important to remember that the kiss wouldn’t have happened between the actresses unless consent was provided (maybe even parental consent too).
But, it’s easy to see why some people aren’t okay with it. Especially if their relationship continues to develop on the show.
