Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, fashion and runways are changing. For starters, everything is virtual and the year spent in self-isolation is leading many of us to become more creative and experimental with our fashion, especially on TikTok. So, it’s no surprise that TikTok has dubbed September its official Fashion Month and wants to help you become a virtual runway model.
What is TikTok fashion month?
From the beginning of September till the 8th of October, TikTok is running a series of LIVE virtual runways and tutorials with some v luxury fashion brands. In the spirit of the monochromatic outfits trend and advice on how to become a Gucci model found on the app, TikTok is rolling out a series of new hashtags to encourage users to get creative, learn how to recreate their favourite iconic outfit and learn everyday basics of fashion.
What are the TikTok fashion month hashtags?
As per a press release on the TikTok newsroom, they include: the #TikTokFashionMonth, where you can “pull out your best looks” and “walk the runway”; #GetTheLook where people will break down how to recreate an iconic look; and #Fashion101, your new TikTok source for aaaall things fashion from colour blocking to patterns.
Then, over the month, a number of HUGE luxury brands will debut their new work and present LIVEs. On the 18th of September, 22-year-old TikTok style icon Ariam (@iambrattyb) will give a tutorial on how ‘Get The Look’.
Then, JW Anderson will reveal their forthcoming Women’s SS21 collection on the 28th of September, followed by a “TikTok Runway Odyssey” with PUMA starring another TikTok fashion style account, Alice + Olivia (@aliceandolivia).
“We’ve seen the fashion industry reinvent what luxury fashion means to culture and society through TikTok by bringing fashion into the homes of our community during quarantine,” CeCe Vu, Fashion Content Partnerships Lead at TikTok said in the statement announcing the fashion focus month.
“With the launch of our TikTok Fashion Month, this is just another way for our brand partners to leverage the platform’s authentic and community-driven approach to showcase their art, creativity and personalities in a unique and truly TikTok way.”
“As the world continues to adapt to a new normal, we couldn’t be more inspired by the passion and inclusivity of the fashion houses, brands, creators and celebrities on TikTok. We’re excited to be able to bring together such a glamorous group of people and brands and invite our community to a front row seat into the future of fashion.”
