If we said Sabrina Carpenter had ever let us down on a carpet, we’d be lying. From the periwinkle feathery gown to the Marilyn-inspired curls, she just gets it right every time. Her Met Gala look (an incredibly tailored oxblood blazer-bodysuit) may have been a departure from her usual pastel palette, but it was still very Sabrina.
“My look is a dramatic take on a dandy tailcoat with an elongated train,” she told Vogue re: her outfit. “It mixes Savile Row tailoring with Parisian corsetry. The striped burgundy wool is hand-embroidered and finished with crystal buttons.” One thing it wasn’t finished with, however, were pants – and there was an interesting reason why.
After climbing the Met steps in (read: important detail) heels that appeared to be just about as tall as Sabrina herself, the “Bed Chem” singer caught up with Vogue‘s correspondent, LaLa Anthony to discuss the inspiration behind opting for a tailcoat and bare legs…

“This is Pharrell and this is Louis Vuitton”, Sabrina shared. “I’m such a massive fan of Pharrell’s and have been to the show and I was just like ‘if I could go this year with him, that would be my dream, and it came true”.
And as it does in the best decisions of her career (the naming of the no-skip album Short n’ Sweet, hello), her height factored in. Sabrina explained that Pharrell was pretty clear he saw the look as a pants-less one. “He was like ‘you’re quite short, so no pants for you’, so here we are”, she noted.
She also described the sky-high heels she paired with the look as a “staple” for her, before admitting she was “living life on the edge” in them. All delivered deadpan of course, because it’s Sabrina.

There was in fact an added bonus tied into eliminating trousers from the look, too. “This is my third Met, never been to the bathroom once”, Sabrina admitted. I’ve never been able to use it in my outfit, so tonight might be the night, we’ll see.” Big goals for a big night, we love to see it. Honestly, after making it successfully up those stairs, anything else is a bonus.
She has no plans to gatekeep anything exciting she sees in there, either. “I’m just gonna let everybody know what it looks like. I’m sure it’s just a normal museum bathroom, but I’m excited to find out.”
As we Met Gala super-fans well know (from afar), the bathrooms are basically the hub of the evening. The greatest selfies and most random friendships always happen there, and we think it’s about time Sabrina got involved. May her bodysuit unbutton easily, and all her wildest bathroom manifestations come true.
