ICYMI, back in July, old tweets of Max Ehrich, who is engaged to singer Demi Lovato, resurfaced, claiming that he wanted to marry Selena Gomez. The controversy came a week after the pair announced their engagement.
Then, afterwards, Demi Lovato stans began to dig deeper into Ehrich’s old tweets and allegedly came across other tweets that pitted Demi against Selena, and suggested her fiancé was more interested in her former Disney co-star, alongside Ariana Grande, Gigi Hadid and others, according to ELLE.
“Hahaha, Selena Gomez and Demi are cute together but boy if you think Demi is prettier… you’re WRONG,” the man engaged to Lovato wrote in 2010.
Now look, everyone has an embarrassing online past and people change—especially over ten years. We don’t see a reason to cancel Max because of some comments he made about how he stanned Selena over his fiancé but it is a wee bit awks.
Either way, the backlash to these tweets has been so bad that last night, Ehrich deactivated his Twitter profile. This led Lovato to finally address the controversy and defend her man and shut down the alleged feud between her and Selena.
Over on her Instagram Story, the “OK Not To Be OK” singer didn’t specifically address the tweets but said it’s “really sad when people FAKE images to put women against each other.”
“It’s really sad when people FAKE images to put women against each other. If women have conflict that’s between them NOT YOU.
“Secondly, don’t y’all have more important shit to write about in 2020??? I challenge any tabloid that dares to type my name to mention Breonna Taylor and the fact that her murderers still haven’t been arrested. WRITE ABOUT THAT.”
“But then I stop and think… it’s hella rude but damn… I get it,” she confessed, seeing Twitter’s witch-hunt for her fiancé as their distraction to the problems facing us in 2020. “And I don’t wanna look at what’s really happening in the world either but WE HAVE TO.”
“Yes, it’s easier to tear apart celebrities and their relationships because 2020 sucks and scares the shout out of us all but it’s only gonna stay terrifying until we address it all and WORK ON SOLUTIONS TOGETHER.”
“So while on one hand I understand and have compassion for those who are so horrified at the reality of 2020 that they gotta distract themselves with doctored images in order to not focus on how bad these times are, if you aren’t 13 years old trying to grasp the reality of right now, put on your adult underpants and write about what actually matters. Please.”
