This "Disgusting & Insulting" Prom Dress Code Has People Everywhere Outraged

The school prom (or ‘formal’ for us Aussies) is one of the biggest and most looked-forward to events of the year. But unfortunately for some US school students, their school put a HUGE dampener on their big night.

Stanton College Prep in Jacksonville, Florida has been slammed like there’s no tomorrow for posting some ~seriously~ offensive and sexist dress code guidelines on a school notice board.

Last week, a bunch of flyers went up showing which dress styles would be banned form the prom this Saturday. “Going to Stanton Prom? No you’re not,” the flyers read underneath photos of several gowns with exposed backs, deep necklines or leg slits.

But perhaps the most infuriating part is that the text on the supposedly “acceptable” dress read: “Going to Stanton Prom? Yes you are. Good girl.” Good girl?! Um, they’re not dogs!

Catching wind of all the backlash, the school announced on their official Twitter that the flyers have been taken down.

The display of prom dress photos at Stanton College Prep is not appropriate or an approved policy. Images were removed on Mon. #SCPgoodgirl

A Stanton College Prep spokesperson further apologised in a statement to CBS 47 News:

“The display of prom dress photos pertaining to recommended attire at Stanton College Preparatory School is not an approved policy by the school or Duval County Public Schools. The displayed images were immediately removed by school leadership on Monday. Both students and staff have been informed this was not acceptable or appropriate guidance for prom dress attire.”

They’re so lucky they came to their senses but the fact that the flyers went up at all is SO messed up!
