A summer holiday along the coast of the Mediterranean has become like folklore over the past couple of years.

It was a pilgrimage we would look forward to saving for or merely dream of with some hope, but now it’s become a theoretical experience that teases us from our Instagram accounts.
Luckily, we are blessed in Australia with the most beautiful beaches in the world, and some look just like Italian shores minus deck chairs and waiters.
Not that we want those extra bells and whistles here because it’s simply not the non-fuss Aussie way, but there is something extravagant about a British uni student on his school break bringing you a club sandwich.
But it’s not really what we miss, nor is the famous Mediterranean blue water!
We miss the fashion! The way you can pull off wearing heeled espadrilles, a headscarf, and a wrap-skirt without looking overdone.
A sense of consideration and curation goes into the southern European beach style that harps back to the days of French new wave actors, the imagined 1950s, and village-core.
In Australia, our beachwear takes inspiration from the surf girl and has a bohemian quality, which is something we can brag about, but like all things, we want some variety.
We love our thongs slapping on the pavement, our floral rashies keeping us safe from the sun, and wearing a random graphic shirt we found at an op shop with no pants.
But we also like to live out our fantasy where we are the mysterious gal on the beach reading The Odyssey.
Yes! We will happily manic pixie daydream ourselves because sometimes romanticising our lives is the positive energy we need – EVEN if it’s totally diluted.
Who cares if it’s a while yet till we can travel like normal? We don’t have to wait for the world to open up to visit glamorous destinations when we can edit our wardrobe thematically to suit our wanderlust dreams.
