Move Over Short Shorts! Dad Shorts Are Fashion’s Coolest Summer Trend

Your knee-grazing cousins have dethroned you.

The days of wearing wedgie-picking shorts that ride all the way up are momentarily over.

That’s right… honestly, we should have seen this coming, considering we have been experimenting with looser shapes and masculine cuts.

It was only a matter of time before we turned to our dad’s vacation wardrobe for inspiration.

Whether you want to call them long shorts or Bermuda shorts (it’s up to you) we reckon this is the most liberating summer trend of 2021.

Coming in a little shorter than 2015’s biggest trend of culottes, long shorts should graze just above your knee.

You can wear them straight or tight like biker shorts, and you’re welcome to get creative with fun patterns and bold colours.

Of course, fashion’s clinging grip on nostalgia has brought this trend back from the dead of the eighties and nineties.

Long shorts hit the spring/summer 2020 European runways (or rather, virtual showcases, non-merci pandemic) at Celine, Max Mara, Bottega Veneta, and Givenchy, and now we’re entering our warmer months it’s time for us to get in on the look.

You can do no wrong with this trend, and our opinion is the more you’re inspired by your dad’s daggy shorts, the better because ugly fashion hasn’t left our consciousness since it arrived in 2014.

Feel free to style your shorts with bulky sneakers, slides, or even kitten heels along with a cute crop top or a billowing shirt with a singlet styled beneath.

Here are some of the best long shorts for endless versatility and timeless wear.
