The 18-year-old YouTuber has had a massive couple of years, since beginning her channel in 2017 to landing her first American magazine cover on the February issue of Cosmopolitan last year.

It’s a massive feat, but one that doesn’t surprise us at all. Why? Emma Chamberlain is and always has been style #goals. She’s the laid-back ‘90s style queen that even other fashion YouTubers look up to.

“My style is mixing modern trends with retro trends and making them fit in a way that isn’t what you expect at all times,” she told Fashionista, “I will try things that nobody’s tried before and see if it works.”

Take a dig through Chamberlain’s Instagram and you’ll find more style inspiration than you can shake a scrunchie at (she was the original VSCO girl before the world even knew what that was).

An eclectic mix of oversized hoodies, ultra-feminine crop tops, converse and Doc Martens, and of course, a cold brew coffee (@chamberlaincoffee, if u know, u know) are some of the classic Chamberlain pieces.

We’ve rounded up some essential Emma Chamberlain outfits and the key things you know need to sprinkle a little bit of L.A. chill girl into your style.

Cute, comfy, casual, and practical. A scrunchie is Emma’s go-to hair accessory and we are here for it: it’s not going to rip your hair out and give you a headache when you have your hair up for the whole day. It’s a VSCO girl staple for a reason after all.

It’s all in the details with denim. Denim shorts are obviously not the most groundbreaking fashion item, but they’re a classic for a reason.

Chamberlain favours high-waisted blue denim, sometimes with a hint of distressing. This is something you likely have in your wardrobe already—try tucking-in a vintage oversized t-shirt and aforementioned scrunchie for an easy everyday look.

Cop Some Crops

Chamberlain’s most important accessory? Her belly button. Gal loves a crop: whether it’s a sweater, t-shirt, a puffer jacket. We love this Paris moment where Chamberlain paired a cropped white turtleneck under a cropped pastel cardi—it says ‘I have a waist, but I am also cosy af.’

While her laid-back and relatable style is what won our hearts, Chamberlain has also been known to add a designer twist to her fits.

Again, keep an eye out in your favourite vintage stores for ‘90s nostalgia picks like a designer logo sweater or vest, and keep it wearable like this Fendi shirt with denim shorts and Docs.

There’s something so satisfying about a chunky Doc Marten with tiny shorts and a singlet crop top. Fashion juxtaposition you know? It says: “I’m here to get my 10,000 steps and also be super damn cute.”

Emma’s other go-to shoe? A crispy fresh AF1. A year-round staple, Chamberlain loves pairing them with mum jeans and of course, Nike socks, to keep things cosier for cooler weather.

“People have been doing that for months but I’m just now getting into it and loving it. It’s such a cool, edgy kind of ’90s feel and I’m so into it,” she told Fashionista.

Plaid Is Not Just For Clueless Halloween Costumes

Plaid is rad. You can wear it on a skirt. You can wear it on a shirt. You can wear it in the sun, and we think plaid is very fun. Okay seriously though, a plaid skirt in an unexpected colour (blue! incred!) is an easy way to boost an everyday outfit while still being comfortable and not too overdone. Or try the look with some plaid trousers.

Back (Pack) It Up

Chamberlain has begun mixing in designer bags to her looks, but it’s important to never forget your roots. Another VSCO girl staple item: the humble backpack. Chamberlain has convinced us: it’s time to just get a Kanken and be done with it.
