The teen pop sensation took to her Instagram on Friday to mark the incredible accomplishment, sharing a series of photos from the Billboard Women in Music 2022 ceremony.
“women r amazing,” the good 4 u singer wrote. “thank u @billboard for naming me ur woman of the year. 💞💞💞💞.”
In her acceptance speech, Olivia called the accolade a “huge honour” while also talking about how songwriting is “everything” to her.
The musician went on to speak about the struggle that comes with being a young woman in the music industry, before acknowledging the trailblazers who have worked to shatter the glass ceiling.
“I’ve found so much strength from the female songwriters and artists who have come before me and paved the way and opened doors for so many young women like me.”
She continued: “Every woman here today is working to break down those barriers and change the narrative and support each other and I’m so inspired by the women in this room and I want to thank you all for your support, I am supporting all of you.”
The Billboard Women in Music awards were introduced in 2007, with the first recipient being country music singer Reba McEntire.
Since then, some more of the world’s biggest female artists have received the honour, including Beyoncé in 2009, Taylor Swift in 2011 and 2014, Katy Perry in 2012, P!nk in 2013, Ariana Grande in 2019, and more.
In a red carpet interview with Billboard, Olivia was overjoyed to be attending the awards night, emphasising that she loves “supporting fellow women”.
The 19-year-old went on to say that she still considers herself incredibly young as she navigates the industry.
“I don’t really feel like a woman, I feel like a baby sometimes.”
Olivia also revealed she’s started working on her second album, while also preparing for her upcoming tour by exercising a lot.
When the interviewer asked if she’d been dieting or detoxing as well, the Disney actress was quick to shut this down, saying: “I just eat whatever I want all the time, which is how it’s supposed to be.”
Olivia first hit screens on Disney’s Bizaardvark and Disney+’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series alongside her rumoured ex-boyfriend Joshua Bassett.
But it’s Liv’s music career that has really made her a rising star in the entertainment industry, with her debut album SOUR immediately hitting the top of the Rolling Stone album chart.
We’re so keen to see what Olivia does next!
