Singer Lana Del Rey is facing online criticism for wearing a sparkly face mask… which definitely won’t protect anyone from Covid-19.
On the 2nd of October, the “Young and Beautiful” singer shared a video on her Instagram. The video featured her at a surprise meet-and-greet at a bookstore in Los Angeles, where she was seen signing copies of her poetry book, Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass.
And, alarmingly, while Del Rey is wearing a face mask, the mask looks to be made of mesh—similar to the one she wore in a recent Interview Magazine photoshoot. It should be mentioned that a mesh face mask, for those not aware, is not appropriate Personal Protection Equipment. The mesh materials doesn’t stop droplets getting through, meaning it will not help stop the spread of COVID-19.
As many fans have alluded and criticised her online for.
Per Teen Vogue and the Californian government’s COVID PSA, anyone in California has to wear a cloth-based face mask while in public. So, Lana Del Rey’s choice of face mask not only is bad for her and others around her but is, kinda, well, illegal.
In some good news, however, it does seem like Del Rey has fixed the issue, sharing a more recent video on her Instagram Live of her wearing a cloth spotted face mask. Either way, it’s an important reminder to us all to wear appropriate face masks during this time period.
